What is an abandoned vehicle?

An abandoned vehicle is one that appears not to be in regular use and has been in the same place for a period of time, usually 2 weeks or more.

Just because a vehicle is in poor condition or out of tax does not always mean it is abandoned. So, on occasions additional enquiries may have to be made to find out if the vehicle really is abandoned before the Council can remove it. Notice may need to be served and a waiting period of up to 15 days may be required before the vehicle can be removed and disposed of.

Abandoned and nuisance vehicles can often be confused.

Before continuing please check the DVLA website by clicking here to find out if the vehicle is taxed.

If the vehicle is not taxed please do not complete this form. Instead, you need to report this directly to the DVLA by visiting their website.

Vehicles that are causing an obstruction or dangerously parked, irrespective of whether the vehicle is taxed or not, must be reported to the police who can arrange for the vehicle to be dealt with immediately.
